| The MIDMA Speaker Series offers the Manitoba new media industry an opportunity to learn from industry professionals from across North America. Guest speakers will demonstrate and discuss the exciting directions being taken in the areas of Digital Entertainment, Digital Film & Animation, E-Learning, Interactive Design, and Mobility. MIDMA Speaker Series participants will hear the stories of perseverance and innovation, and learn how to realize success in a growing industry. The Speaker series will also serve to introduce and facilitate connections between Manitoba interactive digital media companies and foster a collaborative environment. Past speaker events have featured some of the industry's most creative and innovative talents Brooke Burgess from critically acclaimed Broken Saints, Tom Green of Humber College, Warren Currell of Sherpa Games, James Acres/Fuelindustries, Bryce Cochrane from Electronic Arts, Louis Marcoux of Discreet, 3D specialist Laurent Abecassis, Robert Scales from RainCity Studios, reknowned digital artist, Zack Petroc and Catherine Warren of fantrust.com. The MIDMA Speaker Series also sponsored the FITC Road Show visit to Winnipeg. |

| LET'S TALK WEB 2.0! MIDMA's special guest will be Robert Scales of RainCity Studios (www.raincitystudios.com). Robert will be talking about Web 2.0 and the technologies (social networking sites, wikis, podcasts, weblogs, et al) that surround the so-called second generation of internet-based services. A native of Montreal, Robert's career has been divided between health, social, environmental and business pursuits. He has traveled extensively throughout the Americas and Asia. In 2003, Robert founded Raincity Studios, an award-winning, full service firm focused on web development, web design and marketing. Raincity develops web-based applications, online communities and communication tools for clients such as Warner Bros Records, BCIT, China Access, Predixis, AskANinja.com and the Canadian Government. Robert Scales contributes articles, podcasts and vlog on Urban Vancouver, 2010. DailyVancouver.com, The Standard and his personal website RobertScales.org Robert holds a diploma in Business Management and a Senior Management Certificate in New Media and Web Development from BCIT. The MIDMA Speaker Series and MIDMA Workshop Series is presented with the generous support of Province of Manitoba Science, Technology, Energy & Mines, Industry Canada and Red River College There is a $5.00 admission fee for this Speaker Series event. |

| - May 31st, 2007 On Thursday, May 31, 2007 the MIDMA Speaker Series event featured acclaimed Los Angeles digital artist, Zack Petroc. Zack Petroc's session touched on his beginnings in Cincinnati, Ohio and how his passion for sculpture grew out of his growth as an artist. Classically trained in sculpting, Zack talked of his move into the world of digital art and his progression through a number of smaller studios in Ohio. He talked of taking his skills to Los Angeles and pitching to a number of studios and how he was able to use his contacts to bring him into a number of large projects. He eventually became the Model Supervisor on the film, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, and has worked as an Art Director on John Carter of Mars. He is also a member of the Art Director&rsquo s Guild Technology Committee and published a number of books on Digital Sculpting and using the software ZBrush. On Saturday, June 2, 2007, Zack Petroc hosted a ZBrush Workshop at RRC for 12 very talented digital artists from across the province. The workshop looked at a modern approach to digital sculpting, including technical discussions, and featured in-depth techniques for adding realism to your characters.
